Timely Topics and Discussion
The holidays are a great time to spend with family and to try to fit in some relaxation. It is also a great time to start your estate planning. I know you are asking, "Why do I want to think of something so serious and sometimes depressing during this time?" There are a couple of reasons. At the holidays you are more likely to be seeing family that you might need to have conversations with regarding whether or not they would be willing to be your personal representative or guardian. It's also a time where all of your children may be with you and you can share what you have planned. Or, it might be a great time for a gifting strategy to help with estate tax planning. The best part about it is that you get a head start on a New Year's Resolution - if you start now you will be finished in January and will be able to mark it off of your resolution list. However, the best reason for doing your planning during the holiday season is because it is a gift. Remember, estate planning is not truly going to benefit you - it is a benefit and gift to your loved ones. Happy Holidays and safe travels wherever you may go during this holiday season!
